To use Membership Rewards® points for government payments, you must charge payment to an eligible, enrolled American Express Card. Points will be debited from your program account and a credit for the corresponding dollar amount will be issued to the Card account you used. If the points redeemed do not cover the entire amount of the charge, the balance of the payment will remain on the Card account. Minimum redemption of 200 points. If a charge for a purchase is included in a Pay Over Time feature balance on your Card account (for example, the Extended Payment Option), the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time feature balance
